7.6Enjoyable holiday with caveatsKenneth - Feb 10, 2020
Expansive grounds. Many buildings, mucho people. Lots of pool acreage, laid out well, 3 feet deep with even shallower areas for the kiddies. Classic swim-up bars. Lots of recliners available for tanning and drinking. Amazing beach!
Overall unfortunately, the rooms are very tired. bathroom mirror pitted for example. toilet button needed to be held down for flush to complete. Closet door required attention from maintenance before it would slide open. floor of the room wasn't swept even once while we were there for a week. Need towels refreshed? Go find a maid, and if it's not before 1 pm she'll tell you to come back later. :(
On the plus side, common areas like the lounge/hall/bar/reception were mopped at least daily. As were the walkways along the restaurant/entertainment complex. Swimming pools kept clean. Staff very friendly and helpful. Coffee bar and open drink bar were great.
Ample food, hugely varied selection in the dining room. Not gourmet, but this is Cuba. Hop on, hop off bus to down of Varadero well worth the 5 CUCs for a day pass.
Fellow guests: 90% Canadian, lots of Russians, a smattering of French. Many interesting conversations available if you reach out.
Mostly sunny and hot (yeah!) just a smattering of rain one day. Overall had a very pleasant week.
